More Sailor Inks – Sort Of
03/14/2014The buzz around fountain pen boards this week has been Sailor’s re-release of some Limited Edition colors and their addition to the regular line of inks. I hope it turns out to be true and that they will continue to be available as there are some lovely colors in the bunch.
The colors include
山鳥 Yama-dori – This color received rave reviews when it was first released.
奥山 Oku-yama
常盤松 Tokiwa-matsu – The color I wanted but never ordered.
匂菫 Nioi-sumire
海松藍 Miru-ai
蒼天 Sou-ten
土用 Do-you
A little birdie at one of my favorite U.S. distributors told me today that they anticipate stocking these colors and hopefully very soon. Will let you know whenever I get the word. In the meantime, if you just can’t wait, you’ll have to order from a Japanese source like Rakuten since the release is currently available only in Japan.
Oku yama looks intriguing, too. Like I really need more ink! Suspect I’ll order them all when they come to the US.

by inkophile 03/14/2014 at 5:11 pmI’ve read and seen reviews/scans noting how Oku-Yama is very similar to Sailor Jentle Grenade in terms of color and sheen. Apparently Oku-Yama edges out a bit in the color intensity department?
In any case, this is the first I’ve heard of these inks coming to U.S. distributors, which is excellent news in my book. I’m already looking forward to owning bottles of Miru-ai, Tokiwa-matsu and Yama-Dori!

by empyrealelegance 03/14/2014 at 6:09 pmNot as much as I’d like to be. My big nibs don’t fit well in the bottles, so I have to decant. Granade was all over my sink a few years back.
But I did like Apricot, want Epinard, & these colors seem worth the bother.

by Beth Treadway 03/14/2014 at 6:30 pmThat must have been quite a mess. Squat bottles aren’t the most friendly to pens of any size. Decanting or using a pipette is the price we pay even if it’s only to get the last drop of goodness. Fountain pens are so high maintenance, but worth it considering the alternatives.

by inkophile 03/14/2014 at 6:39 pmWhen I first saw the post on either FPN or FPG, I can’t remember which now, I sent an email off to Atsu at Cool Japan and ordered one bottle each of Yama-Dori and Tokiwa-Matsu. Had I realized that the US distributors were also to carry these, I likely would have held off a bit. That being said, I can’t wait for them to arrive. I found the fountain pen/ink hobby long after these were sold out, and always wished to try them. How exciting that these celebrated inks are being made available again.
