Spring Ink Selection for 2018

04/25/2018

Have you selected your rotation for Spring? Some years the inks select themselves. This year there were no volunteers. However, there are inks on my desk that have been pining for use and so they shall be obliged along with a few more seasonally suggestive entries.

  • Colorverse Crystal Planet (sent by Pen Chalet)
  • Colorverse Andromeda (sent by Pen Chalet)
  • Rohrer & Klingner Blu Mare
  • Noodler’s Lexington Grey
  • Platinum Classic Lavender Black (sent by Luxury Brands)
  • Diamine Vermilion
  • Pilot Blue-Black
  • Sailor Tokiwa-Matsu
  • Papier Plume Caramel (sent by Anderson Pens)

This Spring list is darker than in the past and lacks a pink or orange. Those colors are in storage while my office gets reorganized. If they were accessible, Sailor Peach Pink and J. Herbin Orange Indien would have been included.

Colorverse Crystal Planet and Andromeda were sent by Pen Chalet while Papier Plume Caramel came from Anderson Pens. All are new to my collection and proving to be worthy additions.

  1. Rats! Just tried to add to Pinterest, from iOS WP Reader. A no go. But at least ya know someone’s holding good thoughts ’bout ya. I’ll try again with my Chromebook tomorrow. Making a note in my BuJo now!

  2. Lex Gray is always inked up for me; I use it in my journal as a daily writer. I also currently have Colorverse Redshift, Noodler’s Black Swan in English Roses (left over from winter), a Pilot Blue-Black cartridge (which looks darker than the one in your sample), Diamine Marine, and Caran d’Ache Ultra Violet.

    • Nice rotation. I’ve used all of them except Redshift. Swabbed swatches can turn out more pale than written samples. The Pilot BBk swatch is one of them. The others are more accurate so that settled any urge to adjust the colors to accommodate the one. Maybe next time the colors will all be accurate. As if…

      • LOL, there will always be one that needs an explanation instead of being accurate. 🙂 Redshift is a really saturated red, I feel. It’s rich and bright still, though. I really like it.

        • Good to know about Redshift. Yes, there is always one that misbehaves just like you will find in any group of kids.

          • Kids are like inks… hmm. We could probably write an entire list of reasons why. 😉

  3. I do not yet have a spring rotation lined up, but I always enjoy seeing what’s tempting your seasonal palette. I’m enjoying seeing some recurring favorites of yours here, like Diamine Vermillion, and interested to hear about your adventures with some new ones like Colorverse and Papier Plume. Keep us posted. =)

    • Deciding on a rotation is a lengthy endeavor. Not only do they have to work together, they must do so in a variety of lighting conditions. This latest iteration only took a month to assemble. Crazy, eh?

Very observant of you to notice that Vermilion continues to be included. I prefer orange-reds to the bright, clear and cooler blue shades though Diamine Wild Strawberry works well for me when a slightly more red ink suits my mood. Which red ink do you favor?

The Colorverse inks will get a proper review soon. Papier Plume Caramel has been in a Platinum Century Nice medium nib for several weeks. The two have become fast friends.

BTW I started a long-ish email to you several weeks ago. Hope to complete it over the weekend.

  4. I tend to lean more towards the pinkish reds, and confess that I have little experience with true reds, and orange-reds. I guess I need to branch out a little more. Which, frankly, is why I enjoy your blog so much. You always pique my interest in something new. I am looking forward to receiving your email!

    • Thank you!

Pink ink is good and easy on the eyes. Very nice for a journal especially with a wide nib. 🙂

  5. Great choice! I decided to go for J. Herbin Perle Noire for my desk daily ink. It’s quite on a wet side in my Lamy F, but I absolutely love it.

    • That’s such a well-behaved black ink and a great choice for everyday use.
