22 Inks Do Not Make a Crowd
01/01/2010Just in case you were wondering, I did not have 22 pens inked at one time to make this comparison. It took over a month’s worth of refills to produce this inky delight. Being an inkophile is hard work!
Some of the colors are dead-on. Others are merely close. Between my scanner and monitor there can be no agreement despite my best efforts to broker reconciliation. Still you get the general idea.
The paper is from the recycled version of the Quo Vadis Minister Planner for 2010. I love the fountain pen in the corner and would enjoy notepads with the same image.
There is one small caveat. Some of the writing samples look slightly wider than normal for these pens but that isn’t unusual for fountain pen ink on recycled paper. If you are comparing nibs, this isn’t the best example to use.

by Peggy Love 01/01/2010 at 5:49 pmWithout my ultrasonic cleaner, I’d keep inked pens to two or three. That’s a horrible limitation for an inkophile but I managed it years ago. Fountain pens are a lot more fun now that cleaning isn’t the challenge it was in the past. Still I’d love to have a magic wand and do away with the cleaning altogether. Maybe next Christmas…

by inkophile 01/01/2010 at 5:55 pmThis is awesome. I would like to see something similar, but with the same pen and nib, using a range of inks, like the Iroshizuku line. Do you have them all?

by Bill Scherer 01/01/2010 at 5:56 pmNo, I don’t have all the Iroshizuku inks. Using the same pen and nib for a whole line of inks would be too time-consuming for me. Check Fountain Pen Network for more samples or Spiritual Evolution of the Bean. Stephanie has a huge ink collection and has posted some significant comparison images this past year.
