Seven Flavors of Aqua

2009/05/22

This palette of blues suits the season ahead to perfection. I couldn’t wait so J. Herbin Bleu Pervenche is already in my Sailor 1911. When the converter is empty, Diamine Steel Blue will be up next and maybe J. Herbin Vert Réséda after that. It’s looking like a blue summer for this inkophile.

How about you? Is there an aqua or turquoise destined soon for your rotation?

  1. I have some Montblanc Tourquoise at home, loaded up in a Levenger True Writer, but I confess it isn’t as nice as some of these you’ve displayed here!

    • Kim, when I compare the real swatches to the online versions, it is evident that most inks benefit from the back-lighting of a monitor. The real deal looks flat in comparison.

MB Turquoise should be very close to WSSB though I don’t have a sample for comparison. They do have different performance characteristics so there is that. If you really aren’t happy with MBT, let me know. Maybe we can work out a trade…

  2. Levenger Blue Bahama! Gorgeous colors. I love blue!

    • Hmmm. Wonder if I have a sample of that around here somewhere. Might have to do a little digging through the sample box over the holiday weekend. Thanks for the tip. :)

  3. I think that I have the same addiction to ink as you – see http://londonpenclub.wordpress.com/ How are you able to ink up so many pens and then clean them. Do you just fill them with a small amount of ink, dip them, keep them inked,…? Enquiring minds need to know.

    Thanks!
    Mike

P.S. If you ever want to trade inks, let me know!

    • Thanks for stopping by. Would you be referring to my ink addiction or blue addiction? ;) From perusing your blog, I would guess the latter. You have many like those from De Atramentis that aren’t available here. Trades are always possible.

Your query about cleaning pens prompted a post on the subject. Hope you find something in it useful.

  4. These are all lovely! I had never really considered aqua ink before but happened to fall in love with Diamine Aqua while looking through Art Brown’s ink book this weekend and bought a bottle, completely on impulse. (Never tried Diamine, either.) I guess it was just the right time!

    • Now you can see what a good choice you made at least compared to six other inks. Diamine has great properties with good depth of color. It should work very well for you. :)

  5. What a relaxing set of colours! With these you’re writing with the colours of the sea.

  6. Just getting back into hand writing after years of banging the keyboard. Years ago, I used a fair bit of what Sheaffer used to call Peacock Blue. Now, the more I see Private Reserve’s Blue Suede, the more convinced I am that there’s a bottle in my (near) future.

    • Never tried Peacock Blue but PR Blue Suede is right nice. It’s heavily saturated so not the fastest to dry but certainly acceptable. It has very good flow and excellent in a pen with a very fine nib. Hope you like it.

  7. Nice to see Diabolo Menthe in there—a personal fave.
